ABOUT ME

Yoga for Strength

Can we practice yoga for strength? Or is it the other way around?  Do we need to build strength outside of the practice to do certain yoga postures?  Have you been doing yoga asana for a long time and wonder if you are getting stronger or even maintaining strength?  Do you keep getting small discomforts that just won’t go away?  Maybe you’re not really looking for yoga to make you stronger maybe you are looking to get stronger so that you can keep practicing yoga?  What about flexible practitioners?  Or what happens as we age?  Is the yoga practice well-rounded enough to be the only activity a person does?  What about pulling?  Yoga does not incorporate any pulling practice. Does that even make a difference?

These are just some of the questions that have started to pop up in my practice over the last couple of years.  After 15 years of practicing Ashtanga and at least 10 years of no other type of movement and some recurring aches and pains, I’ve started to look at my yoga practice from a different view.  Will the yoga practice be enough to sustain a healthy and strong body in the long run?

If you have some of these same questions, then maybe we are on a similar path.  If you are also looking at maintaining a strong yoga practice while also exploring other movement, then maybe we are a good fit.
